CFSC Staff Appreciation!
Mark Geary joined Community Foundation Sonoma County in March of 2020. Since then, his admiration and appreciation for nonprofit organizations has grown. He admires how Sonoma County holds many organizations that focus on a variety of social issues and community topics. Mark shows great pride in his work at CFSC and in his contribution in helping the foundation serve as a hub to nonprofits in Sonoma County.
Mark’s role as controller ensures the organization is following accounting rules carefully and correctly. Every organization operates their finances differently, and for nonprofits specifically; this process can be quite challenging and finding well-qualified individuals to operate finances can be difficult as well.
Mark showed his own resilience when he joined the CFSC team just a couple of weeks before the mandatory COVID-19 lockdowns. With a new challenge of working from home, Mark was able to tackle the organization’s accounting system while still providing support for the rest of his team.
Mark was born and raised in Riverside, CA, before moving north to study accounting at University of California, Santa Cruz. Mark has over 10 years of experience in accounting and financial leadership. At CFSC, Mark is happy to have found an organization where he is able to put his accounting skills and experience to something both meaningful and rewarding.
Six years ago, Mark and his wife settled down in Sonoma County where they currently reside alongside their two young children, their dog, their pet parakeet, and their recently adopted pet rabbits. Together they enjoy outdoor adventures and exploring the best of what Sonoma County has to offer.
